A series of textile works and art interventions in textile artisan communities tracing collective memory and its influence on artisanal practices. The project delves into the interplay of memory by starting with an in-depth exploration of Syrian heritage, traditional visual language, and symbolism of daily objects Through crochet, embroidery, weaving, and other textile forms, the work in progress aim to question traditional craft by transforming it into Kitsch under the influence daily notions, eventually offering a nuanced perspective on the relationship between tradition and contemporary expressions.
The project took part in Ettijahat Independent Culture’s Create Syria program, fourth edition “Beyond the Now: Socially Engaged Art in a (Dis)Connected World” and was shown across cultural and art festivals organized by Ettijahat’s project partners: Counterpoints Arts, Plymouth College of Art and Mozilla Festival 2023.
